In 2009, Annie Hitchpussy laid the foundation for her work. Using analogue photography and video installations, she attempts to seize the feeling of how she perceives the outside world. Fascinated by her neurodivergent perspective, she captures life. In her work, she plays with psychological themes. She explores loneliness that arises from not quite fitting into the mould of life.
In her video installations, she plays with moving and still images. In this way, she creates illusions. The images of desolate landscapes or the vast sea give you an uncanny feeling. She shows what she sees, giving you a completely different perspective on familiar images.
She deliberately keeps her photography simple by working with analogue point-and-shoot cameras. She orchestrates a snapshot. A fleeting moment is caught in the small camera. The absence of certain photographic rules results in a pure, raw photo. It is as if she is allowing you to see through her eyes.
